Campaign Manager interviewed by ABC’s Bush Telegraph

Save the Cassowary campaign manager and Rainforest Rescue’s Director of Conservation Jennifer Croes, was interviewed by Radio National’s Cameron Wilson for Bush Telegraph on Wednesday 5 March.

In the interview, Jennifer tells how vehicle strikes – caused by fragmentation of their habitat (because Cassowaries have to cross busy roads for food and to breed) near places like Mission Beach – are now a major threat to the remaining cassowaries in the wild and that people who live on the Cassowary Coast, and the many who visit there each year should take extra care to drive slowly and be alert for birds who are crossing.

She also talked about the campaign was the first of its kind in Australia and is a joint effort between the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage, local Councils in Far North Queensland and almost 20 zoos around Australia who are bringing the plight of the Southern Cassowary to their visitors through interpretive signs in their establishments.
