We continue with our program of habitat restoration and wildlife corridor development in the Wet Tropics, using our own plant nursery located in the Daintree and working with our new local Indigenous partner, Girringun Aboriginal Corporation, at Mission Beach.
Rainforest Rescue’s ‘Cassowary Corridor Restoration’ project is contributing to significant conservation outcomes outlined under the Australian Government’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy (2010-2030). To date we have planted a total of 51,149 trees.
Rainforest Rescue’s Daintree Plant Nursery propagates and grows rainforest trees for revegetation projects. All of the seeds are collected from the Daintree Lowland Rainforest between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation and the trees are replanted in this area, helping to restore vital habitat and corridors for Southern Cassowaries and other wildlife.
With the support of a committed group of volunteers, the Nursery produces – on average – 10,000 plants per year.
We need your help to continue this work! Your purchase of a Cassowary Care Package will contribute to the restoration of critical rainforest habitat for the Endangered Southern Cassowary. Every $25 will plant and maintain one rainforest tree for two years.
Please contact us if you would like to be involved in future tree planting activities.
